Why It Works

Key Benefits

🦠
40 Billion CFU per Serving
According to the Supplement Facts panel, one serving (2 capsules) provides 40 billion CFU from four strains in a proprietary blend: Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14, Bifidobacterium lactis Bl-04, Lactobacillus plantarum Lp-115 and Lactobacillus paracasei Lpc-37. CFU is a count of live organisms and does not by itself show an effect; effects depend on the strain. The label does not state a CFU count at the end of shelf life.
💊
Four Strains in One Formula
A review of probiotic mixtures found that in 12 of 16 studies comparing a mixture with its separate strains, the mixture was more effective, but it is unclear whether this reflects synergy or a higher dose. The four strains named on the label have been tested together in a laboratory simulation of digestion, not in people. Effects of this exact blend on health outcomes have not been shown.
🌾
Prebiotic Fiber Included
Each serving contains 24 mg of fructooligosaccharide (FOS), a prebiotic fiber that gut bacteria can ferment, and 60 mg of a complex marine polysaccharide. A review of rapidly fermentable fibers such as FOS found they may suit people who tolerate them, but can cause gas or bloating in susceptible people.
🔄
Research on Antibiotic-Associated Diarrhea
A 2012 meta-analysis of 63 trials found probiotic use was associated with a lower risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (relative risk 0.58), but results varied and a 2025 Cochrane review rated the certainty as low. In a study in mice and human volunteers, probiotics taken after antibiotics were associated with slower, incomplete gut microbiome recovery. This product was not tested for this purpose; ask your prescriber or pharmacist before combining it with antibiotics.
✅This product is for you if…

You want a probiotic that also contains a prebiotic fiber (fructooligosaccharide)
You have checked with your doctor or pharmacist if you take regular medicines or have a medical condition
⚠️Consult your healthcare provider if…
You are pregnant or breastfeeding. Ask your doctor or pharmacist first
You have a weakened immune system (for example organ transplant or chemotherapy). Ask your doctor first
You have a central venous catheter or other indwelling line, or you are seriously ill or in intensive care. Rare bloodstream infections linked to probiotic bacteria have been reported. Ask your doctor first

Clinical Evidence

Published research relevant to this product. These studies were generally not conducted on this specific product.

🔬
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 53 randomized trials of probiotics in 5,545 adults with irritable bowel syndrome found that particular combinations or strains appeared to have beneficial effects on global symptoms and abdominal pain, but definitive conclusions about which probiotics are effective could not be drawn. Adverse events were no more common with probiotics.
🔬
A systematic review and meta-analysis of 63 randomized trials (11,811 participants) found probiotic administration was associated with a lower risk of antibiotic-associated diarrhea (relative risk 0.58, 95% CI 0.50 to 0.68). The authors noted significant heterogeneity and that the evidence was insufficient to determine which probiotics work best or for whom.
🔬
A Cochrane review of 47 trials (15,260 participants) concluded that probiotics may reduce Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea (risk ratio 0.50) and antibiotic-associated diarrhea (risk ratio 0.67) in people taking antibiotics, both rated low-certainty evidence. Authors' affiliation with or funding from probiotic companies was noted in 28 of the studies.
🔬
In a study in mice and human volunteers, probiotics given after antibiotics were associated with delayed and persistently incomplete recovery of the gut microbiome compared with spontaneous recovery, while autologous fecal microbiome transplantation led to rapid recovery. The authors suggested potential post-antibiotic probiotic benefits may be offset.
🔬
A review of probiotic mixtures found beneficial effects on several end points, but only 16 studies compared a mixture with its component strains separately; in 12 of them (75%) the mixture was more effective. The authors state it is unclear whether this is due to synergy between strains or the higher dose used in some studies.
🔬
A laboratory simulation of upper gastrointestinal passage and colonic fermentation tested a mixture of the four strains named on this label (B. lactis Bl-04, L. acidophilus La-14, L. paracasei Lpc-37, L. plantarum Lp-115) at 7 x 10^9 and 7 x 10^10 CFU and found a dose-response in recovery of all four strains. This was not a study in people, and its authors were employees of the strains' manufacturer.
🔬
A review of rapidly fermentable prebiotic substrates (inulin, fructo-oligosaccharides, galacto-oligosaccharides) concluded that they may support beneficial microbial and metabolic responses in tolerant individuals but may contribute to gas production, luminal distension and symptoms in susceptible individuals.
🔬
A meta-analysis of 105 randomized trials (6,826 participants) concluded that probiotics gave minor but consistent improvements in several metabolic risk factors in people with metabolic diseases; improvements in body weight were seen in overweight but not obese participants. Several authors were employed by or received funding from Danone Research.
🔬
A review of probiotic safety concluded that probiotics have an excellent overall safety record but should be used with caution in certain patient groups, particularly neonates born prematurely and people with immune deficiency, and that the effects of one strain should not be generalized to others.
🔬
A review reported that Lactobacillus bloodstream infection is infrequent but has risk factors including severe underlying disease, immune suppression, intensive care admission and central venous catheters; Lactiplantibacillus plantarum and Lacticaseibacillus paracasei were among the probiotics linked by molecular methods to blood isolates from some patients.
🔬
In a randomized trial of 298 patients with predicted severe acute pancreatitis, a multispecies probiotic given enterally did not reduce infectious complications and was associated with higher mortality (16% vs 6%); the authors concluded it should not be given to this category of patients.
🔬
A narrative expert review reported that nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation are established effects of GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines, occurring in approximately 30% to 50% of patients, mostly during initiation and dose escalation.
