Why It Works

Key Benefits

☕
Coffee With Lion's Mane and Chaga Powders
The Nutrition Facts label gives a serving of 1 tablespoon (10 g) and 34 servings per 12 oz (340 g) container. By weight the ingredients are 90% roasted Arabica coffee (from Brazil and Mexico), 5% organic Lion's Mane powder and 5% organic Chaga mushroom powder, which is about 9 g, 0.5 g and 0.5 g per serving. One serving provides 6 calories, 0 g fat, 4 mg sodium, less than 1 g carbohydrate, 0 g sugars and 0 g protein. The supplier describes the flavor as a full-bodied medium roast with deep chocolate notes and subtle earthy undertones.
⚡
Contains Caffeine (Amount Not Listed on the Label)
The coffee provides caffeine, a stimulant, but the Nutrition Facts label does not list a caffeine amount, so the amount per serving is unknown and depends on the coffee and how it is prepared. A systematic review concluded that up to 400 mg of caffeine a day in healthy adults, and up to 300 mg a day in healthy pregnant women, was generally not associated with adverse effects. In a meta-analysis of 24 studies, caffeine reduced total sleep time by about 45 minutes and increased the time taken to fall asleep by about 9 minutes. No study shows that the added mushrooms make caffeine gentler.
🧠
Lion's Mane: Small Trials at Several Times the Amount in a Serving
In laboratory studies, Lion's Mane extract induced nerve growth factor secretion in cultured nerve cells. In people, a 16-week trial of about 3 g a day of Lion's Mane dry powder (four 250 mg tablets, 96% powder, three times a day) in 30 adults aged 50 to 80 with mild cognitive impairment found higher cognitive scores than placebo, which fell after the powder was stopped, while a 28-day trial of 1.8 g a day in 41 healthy young adults found faster performance on one task after a single dose and otherwise null or limited findings. One serving of this coffee has about 0.5 g of Lion's Mane powder, one sixth of the first amount and under a third of the second, and the trials did not test it in coffee. Taking more servings to reach those amounts would also multiply the caffeine.
🍄
Chaga: Laboratory Data and Kidney Cautions
In laboratory tests, a polyphenol extract of chaga showed antioxidant activity and protected cultured skin cells from oxidative stress; no human trials showing benefit for immunity or inflammation were found. Case reports describe kidney injury or kidney failure from oxalate after daily use of chaga powder, for example 4 to 5 teaspoons a day for 6 months or 10 to 15 g a day for 3 months. One serving of this coffee has about 0.5 g of chaga powder, much less than those amounts, but the oxalate content of this chaga is not listed. People with kidney disease or kidney stones should ask a doctor before using chaga-containing products.
🩺
Who Should Check First
Ask a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an anxiety or panic disorder, a heart rhythm condition, kidney disease or kidney stones, a mushroom allergy, or take regular medicines. In a meta-analysis, caffeine at doses of about 400 to 750 mg caused panic attacks in about half of people with panic disorder, and a 2026 American Heart Association statement reports that caffeinated coffee increased premature ventricular contractions in randomized trials among regular coffee drinkers.
✅This product is for you if…
Adults who enjoy medium roast coffee and want a coffee blend that also contains Lion's Mane and Chaga mushroom powders (5% each by weight)
Adults who count the caffeine in this coffee towards their daily total (the label does not list the amount) and have checked the precautions in the list below
Adults who take medicines or have a medical condition and have first asked a doctor or pharmacist whether it suits them
⚠️Consult your healthcare provider if…
You are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding: higher caffeine intake is linked to pregnancy loss in observational studies; ask your doctor first, and we found no safety data for Lion's Mane or chaga in pregnancy or breastfeeding
The person is a child or teenager: do not give it to a child unless a doctor advises it (caffeine limits for children are based on limited data)
You are sensitive to caffeine, have trouble sleeping, or will drink it in the evening: the coffee contains caffeine, which shortened sleep in trials
You have an anxiety disorder or panic disorder: caffeine at about 400 to 750 mg caused panic attacks in about half of people with panic disorder; ask your doctor first
You have palpitations, a heart rhythm condition or heart disease: caffeinated coffee increased extra heartbeats in trials; ask your doctor first
You have kidney disease, kidney stones or a history of oxalate kidney problems: chaga is very high in oxalate and case reports describe kidney failure after daily use of chaga powder; avoid chaga-containing products and ask your doctor
You have a known mushroom allergy: avoid it, as the blend contains Lion's Mane and Chaga mushroom powders
You take regular medicines, including MAO inhibitors, stimulant medicines, blood thinners, diabetes medicines, immunosuppressants or heart medicines: ask your prescriber or pharmacist first
Never stop or change a prescribed medicine without asking your prescriber

Science

Clinical Evidence

Published research relevant to this product. These studies were generally not conducted on this specific product.

🔬
In a double-blind trial of 30 adults aged 50 to 80 with mild cognitive impairment, who took four 250 mg tablets containing 96% Lion's Mane (Yamabushitake) dry powder three times a day (about 3 g a day) for 16 weeks, cognitive scale scores were significantly higher than with placebo at weeks 8, 12 and 16; scores fell significantly 4 weeks after the powder was stopped. The first author's affiliation is a mushroom laboratory (Hokuto Corporation)
🔬
In a pilot trial in 41 healthy adults aged 18 to 45, 1.8 g/day of Lion's Mane for 28 days was followed by faster performance on the Stroop task 60 minutes after a single dose and a trend towards lower subjective stress after 28 days (p = 0.051); null and limited negative findings were also observed, and the authors advised caution because of the small sample
🔬
A systematic review of Lion's Mane supplements, which included five randomized controlled trials, noted that potential side effects, although commonly unreported, include stomach discomfort, headache and allergic reactions
🔬
In a laboratory study, an aqueous extract of Lion's Mane induced nerve growth factor secretion and promoted neurite outgrowth in cultured neuroblastoma-glioma cells but did not protect the cells from oxidative stress; this was a cell study, not a human study
🔬
In laboratory tests, a polyphenolic extract of Inonotus obliquus (chaga) scavenged free radicals and protected a human skin cell line from hydrogen peroxide-induced oxidative stress, while the polysaccharide extract was inactive; these were cell tests, not human trials
🔬
A case report described a 72-year-old woman who ingested chaga powder (4 to 5 teaspoons per day) for 6 months and developed oxalate nephropathy requiring hemodialysis; the authors noted that chaga contains extremely high oxalate concentrations
🔬
A case report and literature review described end-stage renal disease with oxalate crystal deposits in a 49-year-old man after long-term use of chaga powder, which the authors found to have an extremely high oxalate content
🔬
A case report described a 69-year-old man who ingested chaga powder (10 to 15 g per day) and vitamin C for 3 months and developed acute kidney injury with calcium oxalate crystal deposition in the kidney tubules; kidney function recovered after treatment
🔬
A systematic review concluded that up to 400 mg of caffeine a day in healthy adults, and up to 300 mg a day in healthy pregnant women, was generally not associated with adverse effects, and that 2.5 mg per kg of body weight a day remained an appropriate recommendation for children and adolescents, based on limited data
🔬
In a meta-analysis of 24 studies, caffeine reduced total sleep time by 45 minutes and sleep efficiency by 7%, and increased the time taken to fall asleep by 9 minutes; the authors estimated that coffee (107 mg per 250 mL) should be consumed at least 8.8 hours before bedtime to avoid a reduction in total sleep time
🔬
In a meta-analysis of prospective studies, higher maternal caffeine intake was associated with a higher risk of pregnancy loss (7% higher risk per 100 mg/day); the authors called the findings inconclusive and said adherence to guidelines to avoid high caffeine intake during pregnancy appears prudent
🔬
In a systematic review and meta-analysis of caffeine challenges using doses of 400 to 750 mg, 51.1% of 237 patients with panic disorder had a panic attack after caffeine and none after placebo, and caffeine increased anxiety in both patients and healthy adults
🔬
An American Heart Association scientific statement reports that randomized trial data among regular caffeinated coffee drinkers showed that caffeinated coffee decreases the risk of atrial fibrillation occurrence but increases the frequency of premature ventricular contractions
🔬
A literature review found that interactions of coffee or caffeine with common medications after acute coronary syndrome or percutaneous coronary intervention are less studied than caffeine's own cardiovascular effects

Kasivit Ember Coffee is a medium roast coffee blend made from Arabica beans from Brazil and Mexico, with Lion's Mane and Chaga mushroom powders. By weight, the supplier lists 90% roasted Arabica coffee, 5% organic Lion's Mane powder and 5% organic Chaga mushroom powder. The Nutrition Facts label gives a serving of 1 tablespoon (10 g) and 34 servings per container, so one serving contains about 9 g of coffee, 0.5 g of Lion's Mane powder and 0.5 g of Chaga powder (calculated from the percentages), and provides 6 calories, 0 g fat, 4 mg sodium, less than 1 g carbohydrate, 0 g sugars and 0 g protein. It contains caffeine from the coffee; the label does not list a caffeine amount.

The supplier describes the coffee as a full-bodied medium roast with deep chocolate flavor and subtle earthy undertones, made from Bourbon, Typica, Catuaí, Catucaí and Mundo Novo varietals. Lion's Mane has been tested in a few small human trials and chaga mainly in laboratory studies. In the human trials of Lion's Mane, adults took about 3 g a day (four 250 mg tablets of 96% dry powder three times a day, in adults aged 50 to 80 with mild cognitive impairment) or 1.8 g a day (healthy adults); one serving of this coffee has about 0.5 g, so reaching those amounts would take roughly 4 to 6 servings a day, which would also multiply the caffeine. No study of this coffee or of mushroom coffee is cited on this page, and no benefit for energy, focus, mood or immunity has been shown for it. Chaga contains high levels of oxalate, and people with kidney problems should avoid it; the kidney injury case reports involved 10 to 15 g of chaga powder a day (20 to 30 servings of this coffee) or 4 to 5 teaspoons a day, far more than the 0.5 g in one serving, and the oxalate content of the chaga in this product is not listed. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Evidence Rating★★★★★Limited evidence · Lion's Mane was tested alone in small trials at 1.8 to 3 g a day, several times the 0.5 g in one serving of this coffee, and chaga mainly in laboratory studies; no study of mushroom coffee or of this product is cited
